Gateway Tour ~ Mueller shoots 60, Critchfield wins sudden death playoff.
The Gateway Tour event at the Trilogy Golf Club at Power Ranch included a number of first for the Winter season; an -11 under par 60 and an exciting three hole-sudden death playoff.
The 60 (31/29), came from Jesse Mueller who teed off at 8am as part of the fourth group of the day. Mueller’s score was good enough to earn him a spot in the three-man playoff against Kendall Critchfield and Ryan Hogue who teed off almost two hours later.

Mueller’s score on his outward nine was his third 31 of the season. And his 7-birdie and 2-par 29? That’s his second best — Mueller shot a closing 28 during his domination (-24) at Anthem Country Club.

Unfortunately, three hours of downtime between holes turned out to be too much for Mueller.

His approach shot from the fairway of the 18th hole, the first playoff hole, hit the bank and fell back into the water.

From just off the green, Mueller hit a great chip but was unable to convert, his ball came to rest just below the hole.

Unlike Mueller, both Critchfield and Hogue were on the 18th green in regulation with putts reminiscent of those during regulation.

However, neither player was able to capitalize and both tapped in for par.

With two players remaining, the playoff continued on the par 5 558 yard 17th.

Both players found the fairway with their drives.

And from their respective lies, hit the green in two and proceeded to two-putt for birdies.

For the third time in less than an hour, both players had short iron approach shots to the 18th green after hitting the fairway with their drives.

As with his prior attempts, Hogue left himself above the hole.
And unable to convert the birdie putt.

Critchfield took a different route with a perfectly played one-hop-and-stop approach to about 6 feet short of the hole.
